I don't speak (write) French, but I'd like to add: the owner of the island (Francis Bannerman) built the castle during WWI as an arsenal. Rumor has it that he feared foreign attack and wished to be prepared with munitions!

The little island is offshore by the charming New York little town of Cornwall, which is a short distance up the Hudson from West Point, the United States Military Academy. The whole region is rich in Revolutionary War history.
